WARNING

In Fond Memory Of

BENTLEY

Bentley was born on 3.12.03. A handsome lively little chap
who deserved to be loved to pieces. His loud purr and
winning ways said he was destined to be very special to
whoever chose him, and he was.

SADLY  this was to be short lived.

 PREPARE FOR A HORROR STORY

Bentley went to live with a lady who was determined to look after      him well. Only the best for Bentley. He was  pampered and cared for in every way. He grew bigger and more handsome and I received
progress reports on him. He was doing very well and seemed to be
thriving, but he was carrying a hidden secret.  Suddenly he was taken  ill. He was rushed to the vet and put onto a drip as he was
de-hydrated. The vet suspected that it was his kidneys or liver and
took blood tests. The results confirmed that it was his liver,
he was by now so very ill that poor Bentley had to be put to sleep.
He was 7 months old.  Still a baby.

The vet told his owner that he had been poisoned.
She was distraught, he was a house cat and she was a responsible
person, so how could this be?

She went onto the Internet and entered the name that the vet had given to her and looked up what could cause it in cats.

It all then came to light. TEA TREE is a cat killer.

When she told the vet what she had found and that she had been
cleaning Bentley's teeth with a toothpaste containing it, he contacted the toxicology dept. They reported that there had been SEVERAL cases where deaths had occurred related to
TEA TREE these though had been attributed to shampoos containing it. The vet agreed that whichever way it was administered TEA TREE was likely to have the same affect on cats.

In Bentleys case the affects TEA TREE had on him had built up over a period of time until his system could take no more.

His owner is contacting the manufacturer as indeed have I. She is also writing to various cat magazines hoping to stop this from happening to other cats. How products can be sold to the public, when toxicology shows what it does to the animals is beyond me.

PLEASE take heed of this shocking event and BEWARE of any animal products containing TEA TREE.

Until of course it is proved conclusively to be safe
